Beer Style: American Brown Ale - This style originated from the English Brown Ale but uses American ingredients. The ingredients, hop, malt and flavor profile vary by brewery. Typically dark in color with a "nutty" flavor.
Appearance: Pours a cascading dark amber color with some dark red tint and a 1-4 inch head
Aroma: Dark fruit, sweet roasted malt
Mouthfeel: Creamy with a medium body
Taste: This is a fairly complex beer with a wide spectrum of flavors. The dark fruit and sweet roasted malt dominate initially, with coffee and molasses to follow. Finishing with a little spice and some hops.
Overall: This brew is more like a stout than a brown ale, which is a pleasant surprise. The flavor is great and the beer is well balanced. It is not often that you can pinpoint all these flavors in a beer, without it being a mess.
This is also brewed in Chicago where their other special releases are brewed.
