Horny Goat Watermelon Wheat

This week I am reviewing another beer that is new to Wise Guys: Horny Goat Watermelon Wheat. This screams summer to me because--what is more summer than watermelon and wheat beers? Why not throw them together to make a summer brew?
Appearance – Horny Goat Watermelon Wheat pours copper in color with a nice white head. It has lots of carbonation and seems very alive.
Smell – When tasting, I get a slight watermelon smell at the beginning with some bread-like characteristics. The beer finishes with a wheat nose.
Taste – Horny Goat Watermelon Wheat begins with a very pronounced watermelon taste that is followed by a wheat backbone.
Mouth-feel – Horny Goat Watermelon Wheat is thin for a wheat beer, but the carbonation gives it a nice refreshing bite. It is very easy to drink.
Overall – Horny Goat Watermelon Wheat is exactly what it claims to be….a watermelon wheat beer. The watermelon is definitely there, but leaves enough room for the wheat flavor. I would have to say that this beer would be a good change of pace for the average summer shandy drinker and/or someone just looking for a light, crisp refreshing beer.
