Schlafly Session IPA

I’ve been waiting for Schlafly’s Session IPA (4.5%).  Schlafly Session proudly displays a big yellow square on the side of this can where it has the a.b.v in big bold print: 4.5% a.b.v., but still claims to have full flavor for session IPA.  It is also a can so you can take it about anywhere.

AppearanceSchlafly Session pours a dark straw in color.  It seems to pour somewhat thick for a session ale, but I’m not complaining.  It has a thick white head at first which subsides with a decent amount of head left.

Smell Schlafly Session smells hoppy with not much malt.  I get a sweetness smell, but not much.  I do smell something else at the end, but I’m not quite sure what it is. Hopefully, it comes through in the taste profile

TasteSchlafly Session is hoppy right up front and goes into more hops.  There isn’t much going on, (I don’t really get any malt at all).  There is an earthy, slight lemon taste (and I mean slight!) It finishes with a hoppy end that is good for a session IPA.

Mouth-feelSchlafly Session is somewhat thin, but one of the better bodies session ales.  It starts crisp & full & finishes just as well.

Overall –  I’ve tried a lot of session ales and Schlafly Session Ale is everything that it should be--hoppy, balanced, and not overly dry on the end (all while keeping 4.5% abv). 4.5% is just as low as mainstream beer (Miller, Bud, Coors, etc.). Schlafly Session has all of the flavor it should and  I’ll be enjoying again soon.
