Shiner Ruby Redbird
Shiner’s Ruby Redbird is this week’s beer. It is a Shiner’s summer seasonal flavor & will be featured at WiseGuys all month. Shiner’s description of this beer sounds very interesting: it states that it is “a beer brewed with Texas ruby red grapefruit juice & ginger.”
Appearance – Ruby Redbird pours a light copper in color. It has an off-white head that disappears rapidly. It has very little carbonation.
Smell - Very interesting smell. At first a lot of lemon, followed by some spicy ginger notes. However, I didn’t smell any grapefruit.
Taste – From the beginning, lots of lemon followed by a ginger spice that surprisingly flows together nicely. Then, you get a pale taste after a bit of grapefruit that reminds me of the pale bitter bit of hops
Mouth-feel – Thin, water-like mouth-feel but acidic bite that seems to take the place of carbonation. Very crisp considering the lack of carbonation.
Overall – A lot of flavor for a summer brew. Very thin which makes it drinkable for those hot summer days. The flavors are like nothing I’ve ever tasted before. Very different but good. Another good reason is the abv is only 4.01%, and that makes it a good beer for summer activities.
