Porters originated in England. The American versions can vary from brewery to brewery. Porters are darker ales with roasted malts and US versions can add hops, chocolate, coffee and/or vanilla for flavor.
Appearance: Dark brown with a very thin head.
Aroma: Coffee, vanilla and roasted malts
Taste: Coffee, vanilla, dry roasted malts, bittersweet chocolate and alcohol
Mouth-feel: Slick with some creaminess
Overall: The coffee flavors dominate all of the other flavors of this beer. I had to remind myself that this is a porter, as it seemed watered down. It is not as flavorful or as balanced as other flavored porters. If you like coffee in your beer, you will like this Atwater variety.
