Two Brothers Long Haul Session Ale
Two Brothers Long Haul is out of the Two Brothers “J Series,” which is aged in French Oak.
With summer approaching, I thought choosing a session ale would be appropriate. A session ale is basically a lower abv (alcohol by volume) than most other craft beers. Normally, session ales sit around 3.9% - 5.0% with 5% being high.
Two Brothers Long Haul is at 4.2%.
Appearance – Long Haul pours somewhat thin, but with a great white fluffy head. You can see right through this beer, but it has a nice copper color.
Smell - Very beard like smell. There is some kind of spice that I can’t put my finger on…maybe from the French Oak.
Taste – Lots of malts up front. Then very flavorful for how thin it poured. It has a tiny bit of hops at the end, but as you finish, it is like the hops multiply, leaving your mouth feeling like you just took a swig of pale ale. Nothing crazy though this beer is only 27 IBU (international bittering units). There isn’t much of the French Oak to be noticed.
Mouth feel - Quite thin…not much to it
Overall - I like it! Long Haul is very easy to drink. There is plenty of flavor out of this one without the high alcohol. I would highly recommend it for cookouts, the beach, yard work…just a craft brew without the normal punch.
