Beer Style: West Coast Style IPA - West Coast IPAs are IPA's that focus on bitter piney hop flavors often leaving a very dry mouthfeel on the finish.
Appearance: Cloudy, orange-ish yellow, 1/4 inch head
Smell: Very aromatic pour, floral and hop aroma
Taste: Bitter, but smooth at the same time. There is a mix of hops in here, but I can’t say one stands out, not much malt with some pine and some grapefruit
Mouth-feel: Starts smooth finishes dry
Overall: If I tried this beer blind, I would never have guessed it was from Sam Adams. They certainly produce quality beers, but their IPAs are not always memorable. I like this beer and I believe it is a nice representation of the West Coast style IPA. (In fact, it is one the most balanced West Coast IPAs I think I have ever had.)
This is a great addition to the everyday Sam Adam's lineup. It is also a good introduction beer for those wanting to know what the West Coast Style IPA is all about.
