Beer Style: Oyster Stout – American Stout
American Stouts originated from the Irish and English versions that focus on deep roasted malt with a dry or smooth finish. American stouts tend to get fairly creative with the ingredients. They may add coffee, or even age them in barrels.
Pearl Necklace stands out as it is brewed with oysters.
Appearance: Deep brown, almost black with some red hues. Faint head with active carbonation.
Aroma: Smells like a typical stout with dark roasted malts, some semi-sweet chocolate, coffee and maybe some faint oyster aroma
Taste: Necklace tastes similar to the aromas. There is a lot of dark roasted malt, with some chocolate. The oysters appear to add minerality and some saltiness
Mouth-feel: Fairly dry feel and medium body
Overall: This was now what I expected, I have never had oysters, and I was pleasantly surprised. This stout has all the characteristics of a typical stout, but then finishes with an interesting minerality and saltiness I am assuming is delivered from the oysters.
I highly recommend all stout drinkers to try it once. I would also recommend pairing this with food, as it could really enhance the right meal.
