Irish-Style Extra Stout by Schlafly
6 pk available for $8.79
Beer Style: Explained by Beer Advocate – extra stout is a descendent of the British and Irish porters of the 18th century. Strong porters eventually became known as strong stout, then foreign stout or extra stout depending upon origin. Extra stouts were exported world-wide to the West Indies, Africa, & parts of Asia.
Appearence: Dark brown, nearly black, pours with 1⁄2” inch head that quickly dissipates
Aroma: Malt heavy, smells more like a Scottish ale, some cocoa
Taste: Dark cocoa, dry roasted malt, and some caramel malt as well – Quite dry, but very drinkable
Mouth-feel: Dry, medium body
Overall: This is a seasonal offering from Schlafly for the St. Pat’s time-frame. It reminds me of Smithwicks and a Guinness Draught poured together 50/50. It has the caramel malt of Smithwick’s and the dryness of Guinness. For fans of the Irish stouts, this is a can’t miss, but it is an 8% ADB so be prepared. This brew is only available for a limited time and it will be gone soon.
Cheers,
