Beer Style: IPA (or India Pale Ale) is a beer that focuses on bitterness and hop profile. Originally made with extra hops to withstand long sailing trips, they have evolved into a “cult” beer style in the USA, with many breweries producing them.
Appearance: Dark gold, massive head, excellent lacing with some carbonation
Aroma: Pine, lemon zest, slightly floral with some grapefruit
Taste: Lemon on the front, followed by slightly sweet light caramel base malt. Finishes with dry, piney grapefruit hops
Mouth-feel: Medium body with dry finish
Overall: Lagunitas IPA is a textbook example of the West Coast style piney and dry finishing IPA. This brew has a well-balanced malt profile that works well with the style. This one tastes incredibly fresh. The alcohol is hidden quite well as it checks in at 6.2%. Lagunitas is about to explode as they open their facility in Chicago, making them the largest craft brewer in the city!
This Beer Guy blogger has been enjoying their brews for years, purchasing them from other markets. Thankfully I won’t have to go anywhere other than Wise Guys!
