Brother Benjamin Double IPA
4 pk only $8.77
I am really excited for Greenbush’s Double IPA, which is described as brewed with honey. Bell’s Hopslam (one of my favorites!) is described the same way, but it is seasonal. Greenbush’s Double IPA is available as an everyday item.
Appearance – Brother Benjamin pours a light coppery brown with a very thick off-white head. It seems to have some body to it as it was poured. Decent carbonation, (I can already smell the hops as I’m pouring it.)
Smell – Brother Benjamin smells great! I get a blend of hops right up front with some malt sweetness. I am also getting some honey smell mixing with the hops for a unique smell.
Taste – Very hoppy at the beginning with nice balancing malt. The malt doesn’t overwhelm the hops. At the end you get the honey--not crazy amounts, but just enough.
Mouth-feel - Greenbush’s Brother Benjamin has a very thick mouth-feel, and that is typical for a good double IPA. It has a good amount of carbonation that gives it crispness.
Overall – I can say that I am a fan of Brother Benjamin. This double is easily on my top 10 for good IPA available everyday. This is a very thick IPA with some sweet honey notes. Hopslom is more in your face with the hops & honey. Even thought this beer is 10.1% abv, it doesn’t show it at all. I don’t get any alcohol for this beer at all. If you’re a hop head craving a new hoppy beer, spring for this one and you won’t be disappointed!
Cheers,
Beer Guy
