Heavy Seas – The Great'er Pumpkin has just arrived at WiseGuys. It puts a twist on pumpkin beer because it is an imperial pumpkin ale that is barrel aged.
Appearance – The Great'er Pumpkin pours as a dark amber with a decent white head that dissipates quickly.
Smell – This ale smells like vanilla at the beginning followed by cinnamon & nutmeg aromas.
Taste – The Great'er Pumpkin starts with a lot of pumpkin right up front. Then it is followed by vanilla in the middle with tons of cinnamon. It ends with a slight taste of nutmeg with some barrel & a surprising bitterness to wrap it up.
Mouth-feel – The mouth-feel on this ale is thin with a little carbonation. I would have preferred it a little thicker.
Overall – The Great'er Pumpkin is a good pumpkin ale falling under the imperial categories with a 10% abv. It has tons of flavor. Heavy Seas put a nice twist on this Pumpkin beer because it is barrel aged. I would recommend this to anyone looking for a good pumpkin beer…especially because some of the others have come and gone for the season. Don’t miss this one.
