Like fruit? Like cereal? Like high gravity? Look no further than Equinox from Lagunitas Brewing Company!
Taken from the name of the aromatic hop known for its tropical fruit characteristics, Equinox hits hard with notes of candied pineapples, papaya, oranges, tangerines, lemons, limes, and, yes, loads of grapefruit!
But don't be deceived! This Spring seasonal is not merely a citrus forward pale ale. In fact, I wouldn't even call this a pale ale. At a mighty 8% ABV, this brew drinks much more like an IPA or a mild barley wine. The added combination of sweet malts, toasted oats and Simcoe hops aid in delivering you an earthy and creamy Lucky Charms-esque elixir in a 22-ounce bottle.
Overall, Equinox is yet another solid and tasty offering from Lagunitas. And, as we all know, you really can't beat the price point. However, the fact that this beer is 8% and only available in a large bottle format, for me, is unappealing. That is, unless I happen to have a buddy over to share. Otherwise, kudos to Tony and company on what I'd say is an 89 point brew.
