American Pale Ale – this style originated in England. The American versions of this style vary greatly from brewery to brewery. They are typically less hoppier than IPAs with balanced hops and malt .
Appearance: Copper in color with a 1/2 inch head with nice lacing and some carbonation
Smell: Caramel, malts, and hops
Taste: Starts sweet, nice malt in the middle, and finishes with mild citrus, piney hops
Mouth feel: Smooth with a dry finish
Overall: I have long awaited this brewery’s arrival to our area. This is their flagship ale and it is the benchmark for the style. It is well balanced with solid flavor while not overwhelming on hops or malt. Oskar Blues is the leader in the canned craft beer offerings – this beer showcases why. The alcohol content is 6.4% but the flavor hides it well. There are a ton of offerings in this style and this beer is now one of my favorites.
