American stouts tend to get fairly creative with the ingredients, adding coffee or even aging them in barrels. Shiner Birthday Beer Chocolate stout was brewed with chocolate.
Appearance: Opaque, dark brown with 1⁄4 head
Aroma: Chocolate cake, brownie, malt
Mouth-feel: Creamy, medium-bodied
Taste: Lots of chocolate and then roasted malt
Overall: Wow! There is no mistaking this is a chocolate beer. It nearly tastes like sweet chocolate cake batter.
But, it does have some stout properties including the roasted malt and the somewhat dry finish. Shiner brews something different every year for their anniversary.
I would recommend “Birthday” for chocolate lovers and those just getting into stouts.
