Beer Style: IPA
IPA or India Pale Ales are beers that focus on bitterness and hop profile. Originally made with extra hops to withstand long sailing trips, they have evolved into a "cult" beer style in the USA with many breweries producing them. This one is brewed with Amarillo, Centennial and Simcoe hops.
Appearance: Light cooper in color, frothy head at start dissipates quickly
Aroma: Pine, spice, grapefruit
Taste: Caramel malt on start, tropical fruit, alcohol, then a dry lingering bitter finish that almost makes me pucker
Mouth-feel: Some carbonation, fairly smooth and creamy until the dry finish
Overall: This is a seasonal release from Schlafly and one of their best brews.
American IPA is incredibly fresh tasting and not very complex. Even though it clocks in at 7.5% it is also incredibly drinkable. Lots of good beers in this category, but American IPA is a classic.
